Remembering George Carlin in more than seven words

I read this via the San Jose Mercury News today - I admired George Carlin.

He was the comedian who actually said the seven words you can never say on television, but close friends and family members remembered George Carlin as a man who, when he was off stage, had only a kind word for everyone he met.

At a private memorial service Sunday in Los Angeles attended by 150 people - "That was as small as we could keep it," chuckled Carlin's daughter, Kelly Carlin McCall - her father was memorialized by comedians Bill Maher, Garry Shandling and others as someone who had no enemies, in part because he was nice to everyone he spoke to.

"What everyone said tonight is if you spent time with my father, whether it was five seconds or five hours, he was kind, attentive, very connected to you, compassionate," said Carlin's daughter.

Overall, Carlin's daughter said, the service was a happy event, one presided over in part by her father himself, who spoke from a montage of video clips assembled from his 51-year career.

Although his stand-up routines were often filled with four-letter words - so many that early in his career Carlin was sometimes hauled off stage and taken to jail - his dead-on ability to highlight the absurdities of everyday life, and do so in such comical voices and faces, made his humor come across as anything but harsh.

"He was a complete man," Carlin's only child said. "He was more than just the seven words you can never say on television."

When my architecture spark first became lit

My love for architecture was ignited as a child.
I remember when I was 10 years old and in fifth grade, I had the opportunity to view and review the plans to a house my parents were buying/had bought.
I think that might have been the first time I saw architectural plans.
Suddenly a light in my head clicked on, as I quickly realized that these 2D drawings represented 3D entities, and I could make myself visualize them!
My new hobby became: to plan out our house, houses I liked, houses we used to live in, hypothetical houses with and without gardens, houses for animals. I planned and built the FRC the next summer (Fish Recreation Center) in the mud of Ordovician metamorphic lakeshore. I loved how the flat metamorphics held the mud back from the fish chambers, so that perfectly clear water could be achieved after a while, and maintained. I thought that someday a horizontal metamorphic or igneous element in my house would make me feel good.
I have achieved the horizontal (but wavy) rock element! ;-)
